Burma plunged back into civil war after the State Administration Council (the military junta currently governing the country) removed the semi-civilian government in February 2021, by way of a military coup d\u2019\u00e9tat, detaining Aung San Suu Kyi and former president Win Myint and several other members of the National League for Democracy.<\/p>

Siegfried makes serveral journeys deep into Karenni State, home to some of the fiercest clashes between Karenni soldiers that oppose the military junta. Thousands have been forced to flee the junta\u2019s onslaught of killing civilians, burning entire towns, summary executions, rape, and mass imprisonments.<\/p>
