After five years of\r\nradio journalism, Maria took up photography in 2011 and started with\r\ndocumenting political and social issues in Moscow. Since then she reports from\r\nremote places in Russia, Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq, working on editorial feature\r\nstories as well as conducting her own personal projects. As a documentary\r\nphotographer she explores mostly underreported stories. <\/p>\r\n\r\n
During 2011-2012 Maria worked independently on a long-term\r\nproject \u2018Hidden War In The Land Of Mountains\u2019 in Dagestan, North Caucasus,\r\nRussia. During 2014 she reported extensively from Ukraine. Recently her\r\nattention has focused on reporting from both Russia and the Middle East.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n In 2013 she was selected for the Getty Reportage\r\nEmerging Talent showcase. The same year she became a participant of the World\r\nPress Photo Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam. In 2014, Turchenkova was\r\nselected as \u201cPDN\u2019s 30: New and Emerging Photographers to Watch\u201d. <\/p>\r\n\r\n Maria Turchenkova\u2019s work has appeared in Le Monde,\r\nTime Magazine, The New York Times, The Guardian, Der Speigel, Newsweek Magazine,\r\nThe Times, La Repubblica and others.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
